Dr. Allan L. Reiss
Dr. Allan L. Reiss is the Howard C. Robbins Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Stanford Psychiatry Neuroimaging Laboratory and Behavioral Neurogenetics Research Center. He also is Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Stanford University and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Dr. Reiss received his undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College, and his M.D. from George Washington University. Dr. Reiss uses advanced research tools such as neuroimaging, genetic analyses and neurobehavioral assessment to focus on neurodevelopmental, and neurogenetic disorders affecting children. Specifically, he studies how genetic factors, brain structure and function, and environmental factors impact the development and progress of individuals with these disorders. With respect to Down syndrome, Dr. Reiss has worked with children, adolescents, and young adults affected by this condition since 1987. A particularly important focus of his current and future work in Down syndrome is to identify factors that can maximize outcome through both biological and environmental interventions.
